    The SCRUBS team would like to thank all the speakers who attended the Career Evening on the 29th of April for there valuable contribution to the success of the evening. What is SCRUBS

 

Scrubs Surgical Society is a student run organisation for medical students at the University of Bristol. Here you will find all of the latest news and updates on what's been going on with Scrubs.

All medical students are automatically members of the society; and everyone is welcome to all of our events!

About Us

Scrubs is a student led surgical society for Bristol medical students. The society was set up in accordance with guidelines from the  Royal College of Surgeons of England and we have contact with similar societies in other medical schools across the country. We are required to report to them at the Medcial School Liaison Committee twice annually where we meet to exchange ideas and advice.

The aims of our society are to:

  1. Increase awareness of opportunities to attend careers afternoons run by the College in London
  2. Provide local opportunities similar to the above,
  3. Bring our members together in an informal setting with surgeons.

    What do we do?



    Ideas for new activities are always welcomed. Broadly common themes include anatomy and suturing tutorials, surgical cinemas and evening talks by surgeons! Of past activities, here are some examples:

    • Two trips to the notorious Bodyworlds exhibition in Brick Lane, London.
    • Guest talk from Dr David Lockey, a consultant in pre hospital care and member of the HEMS team in London. Trauma talk followed by drinks.
    • Maxillo-facial guest talk from Mr Williams, SpR UBHT
    • Suturing skills workshop
    • Orthopaedic revision session for fifth years from Mr Hardy, North Bristol Consultant
    • Surgical Society Social with members of societies from around the country - Clifton Wine Bar
    • Surgical cinema and tutorial on a laparoscopic gastric fundoplication and a laparoscopic appendectomy

     

    Who Runs the Society?

    We are a student run society. Our committee consists of a president, vice president, year representitives and a WIST representitive. Click here to see the current committee.
