From August 2009 a yearly surgical skills training programme will be introduced for all core surgical trainees (CT1 and CT2) within the Severn Deanery. This programme will consist of 5 modules each consisting of a whole days activity which will be repeated three times during the year. Attendance to one of the three dates for each module will be compulsory. The curriculum will include simulation training, team-based clinical training, and generic core surgical skills training. The programme will be repeated every year and trainees will be expected to participate both years during their Core Training. Objective structured assessment of technical skills (OSATS) will be undertaken at the final module. Modules will be run in Bristol and in Gloucester. Please see the table below for details of these five modules and follow the relevant links to obtain curriculum information and information on how to register.
From August 2009 physiology teaching sessions will be added to the existing anatomy teaching sessions run through the University of Bristol. Places will be limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Each teaching session will be run twice to allow more flexibility for attendance. Anatomy sessions will be run on Tuesdays (late afternoon/early evening) in the Department of Anatomy, Southwell Street, Bristol. Physiology teaching sessions will be run on Tuesday afternoons in the Department of Physiology, Bristol Medical School, University Walk, Bristol. Please watch this site for further news on the curriculum, venues, dates and means of registering your place on the teaching sessions.
